Nihonji Temple

Nihonji Temple is an old temple said to have been founded by the monk Gyoki in 725.
The 500 arhats (1,500 arhats) in the cave in the precincts of the temple were created by Koga Guden (the ninth generation of the temple), who restored the temple in the late Edo period (1603-1868). There are approximately 1,553 stone statues of Buddha in the temple.

Due to fires and other disasters, only a few buildings remain today, including the temporary main hall.
